Iowa City Mayor Bruce Teague has extended the city's face mask order. It was set to expire on Monday, but has been extended until November 13th.
Every person in the city must wear a mask that covers their nose and mouth and a violation could result in a misdemeanor and a 105 dollar fine for a first offense.
According to the order, face coverings must be worn when in public places, like grocery, retail and hardware stores and pharmacies. They are also required while riding public transportation or using a private car service and outdoors when six-feet of social distancing cannot be maintained.
Businesses must require all customers to have a face-covering and must post signs alerting customers to the requirement.
Children two years of age and younger, those on oxygen or ventilator, those who have been told by health care professionals not to wear one and anyone actively engaged in a public safety role are exempt.
