Story County Man Faces Child Endangerment Charges

MAXWELL, Iowa - A story county man is in jail today facing charges of child endangerment after police say he shook an 8 month-old baby boy, causing him to stop breathing.

Police say 24 year-old Jacob Kalsem of Maxwell called 9-1-1 about a baby not breathing back on September 7th. Emergency crews responded and transferred the baby to a Des Moines hospital.

Investigators say Kalsem admitted to police that he became frustrated when the baby wouldn't stop crying. He said he picked up the baby and shook him, and the baby stopped breathing about a minute later.

WHO TV13 reports the current condition of the baby is not known, but as of Tuesday, his condition was reported as stable.
