COVID-19 treatment trial underway in Ames

(Ames, IA) -- PMG Research of McFarland Clinic in Ames is taking part in a COVID 19-treatment. The anti-viral, by Regeneron, is given thru an I-V.

The treatment is given to those who have recently been exposed or infected with the virus. Dr. Jennifer Killion says they're trying to learn if it prevents people from getting sicker or getting sick at all. She says they're also researching whether it will prevents them from spreading the virus.

Dr. Killion says they started the trial a couple of months ago and are still enrolling participants. Participants must be at least 18-years old.

The trial is one of several treatments being studied globally.

Dr. Killion says she's very hopeful about the potential for some effective treatments and vaccines, but she notes it will take time. She says there's a lot of excitement about vaccine trials, and she hopes the Ames clinic will also join some of those trials in the near future.

Regeneron says they've seen positive results.
