Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority Debuts New All-Electric Bus

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority is debuting the state's first all-electric, zero-emissions bus today.

The bus is part of a pilot project. Seven all-electric buses will be in use this fall as over 100 drivers learn how to operate the new vehicles.

The electric buses are expected to get 150-230 miles on a single charge. Once deployed, they'll be on the streets of Des Moines 8 to 10 hours per day.

The buses will be equipped with wi-fi, USB charging ports, and real-time trackers for passengers.

DART Received a $1.45 million dollar federal grant through a partnership with MidAmerican Energy to fund the program.
