Polk County Treasurer’s Office Open by Appointment Starting Thursday

DES MOINES, Iowa - Polk County residents can now transfer vehicle titles, after a long delay out of COVID-19 concerns.

Starting Thursday, the county treasurer is allowing in-person visits by appointment only for vehicle transfers.

The state extended a grace period earlier this year for expired vehicle titles, registration or license plates.

“We are very happy to be able to offer the appointment option on a limited basis to our customers with these more complicated transactions”, said Polk County Treasurer Mary Maloney. “We just have to do it in a way that is safe. One way we can allow customers to visit and manage a safe capacity is by allowing appointments. We miss our customers that walk-in for face-to-face service and they rely and count on our guidance through the legal requirements and walk out with completed paperwork in-hand. I understand the frustration on both sides of the public service counter.”

An appointment can be made here.

Masks are required inside the Polk County Administration Building. Those with an appointment will have their temperature checked at the entrance.
