DES MOINES, Iowa -- The ACLU of Iowa is suing the state after five protestors were banned by the Iowa State Patrol from the State Capitol grounds.
The five people were arrested near the Capitol building during a July 1st protest.
The ACLU says banning protesters deprives activists of their rights of free speech, free assembly and the ability to petition their government.
The Iowa State Patrol also told 17 protesters they were banned from the Capitol for six months to a year.
