(Sioux County, IA) -- An autopsy will be performed on a body, found in a burning SUV in northwest Iowa. The Sioux County Sheriff's Office says a 2007 Jeep Commander was found fully engulfed Friday, in a cornfield, about one mile north of Ireton, 40 miles north of Sioux City.
Once firefighters put out the fire, they found a body in the SUV.
The person was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sioux County Medical Examiner.
The body has been transported to the Iowa Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny, IA for an autopsy. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of relatives.
The incident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
