Iowa's Ongoing Unemployment Claims Down by Nearly 75 from May Peak

DES MOINES, Iowa - Weekly unemployment numbers continue to show improvement for Iowa.

Ongoing claims, which reflect the actual unemployment rate, are down by almost 14percent for the week.

Ongoing claims are down for the 12th week in a row, and are now about a fourth of what they were in early May during their peak.

First time jobless claims in Iowa inched up slight in the last week

Overall unemployment is still 6.0 percent for the state.

First time jobless claims rose by 114, to 4,730 from 4,616 the week before.

Unemployment insurance benefit payments totaled $14,767,817.35, a drop of nearly 14 percent from $17,085,937.61 in the previous week.
