Johnston Schools to Start Full Time In-Person Classes

JOHNSTON, Iowa - Johnston schools is the latest metro Des Moines district moving to full-time in-person classes.

The school board voted to make the change Thursday night, and on-site learning five day a week will start Monday, October 26th. Online classes will still be offered.

Students currently choose between online only, or a combination of in-person and online classes.

Board members cited low numbers of COVID-19 cases and the desire of parents to have full-time classroom learning.

Johnston follows two other metro districts in making the move. Both Ankeny and Bondurant-Farrar schools are sending pre-K through 5th grade students back to classrooms full-time on October 19th.

The Johnston district has 7,000 students.

The 32,000 students in Des Moines Public Schools have been attending online only classes so far this fall, but will start moving to a hybrid plan on Monday. High School students in Des Moines will start in-person classes 50 percent of the time on November 10th.
