U.S. News and World Report

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A new ranking puts Des Moines, Iowa near the top of the list of the 150 best places to live in America, at number 7.

Des Moines has remained near the top of the list "...since we started Best Places to Live." Devon Thorsby of U.S. News and World Report tells WHO Radio News.

She says Des Moines is the third most affordable place to live in the nation, and has a strong job market.

"That brings a lot of tech companies and start up companies that are interested in not necessarily being on the coasts, and having a different kind of setting for their headquarters and employees." Said Thorsby.

She says because of that, net migration for the Des Moines metro area is positive.

Des Moines, Iowa is ranked:

#7 in Best Places to Live

#52 in Best Places to Retire

#2 in Safest Places to Live

#3 in Cheapest Places to Live

#18 in Best Places to Live for Quality of Life
