WEST DES MOINES, Iowa - The family of a West Des Moines school employee who died of COVID-19 is speaking out.
The family says Jennifer Crawford was informed by the district of her exposure to the virus in early September.
She was hospitalized 10 days later in mid-September and died on October 3rd at age 53.
The family says Crawford took all recommended precautions before contracting the virus.She had worked since 2017 as a special education classroom assistant in West Des Moines.
“COVID-19 is a horrible deadly disease not to be ignored or treated lightly," the family said in a statement. "Jennifer took all precautions at school recommended by the governor and still contracted and died from this disease."
