Sisters killed in early morning Des Moines crash

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Sunday morning's snowfall may be factor in a two-car accident in Des Moines that killed two sisters and hurt three more people.

Police say Jazmin Alondra Avila-Arreola, 22, and Daizy Sofia Arreola--both from Des Moines--were killed in the wreck that happened just before 5:00 a.m. in the 2900 block of 6th Ave.

A cousin of the sisters is in critical condition.

Police say a preliminary investigation shows the northbound Toyota car carrying the Arreola sisters and their cousin crossed into the southbound lanes and hit a southbound Jeep SUV.

Police say two people in the SUV suffered minor injuries.

The National Weather Service says just under an inch of snow fell on Des Moines early Sunday morning.
