Undated- Iowa farmers are nearly finished with the soybean harvest, and more than half way done with the corn harvest.
Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig says the snowfall today stopped some activity. He says, however, any amount of moisture would be welcome in Iowa.
Topsoil moisture is rated 58-percent very short or short. Subsoil moisture is on the dry-side too.
Farmers are 65-percent finished harvesting the corn crop, which is over 3 weeks ahead of last year and just over 2 weeks ahead of average. Moisture content of field corn being harvested for grain fell to 16%.
Farmers in south central Iowa still have approximately two-thirds of their corn for grain yet to be harvested while farmers elsewhere have have already harvested at least one-half of their crop.
The report states just 10% of Iowa’s soybean crop remains to be harvested, also over 3 weeks ahead of last year and over 2 weeks ahead of average.
