IOWA CITY, Iowa - A federal judge says the arrest of a black man last year in Iowa City was unlawful, and that an officer was racial profiling.
Christopher Kelly of Chicago was stopped for jaywalking before body camera footage showed him resisting officers, and then being wrestled to the ground and tazed.
KCRG-TV reports Kelly was found to have a loaded gun and marijuana.
But the judge threw out that evidence out, saying police needed more than a hunch to stop someone.
Iowa City Police say the officer did not violate any department policy.
The judge called the incident a case of “walking while Black”, and said the officer was not credible.
