Iowa Expanding New Program to Help People Who Lost Jobs From Pandemic

DES MOINES, Iowa - The state is expanding a new program aimed at helping people who've lost their jobs because of the pandemic.

High schools have joined businesses and non-profits in being eligible for grant money to establish training programs.

Governor Kim Reynolds announced the first recipients in the $6.6 million Coronavirus Relief Fund Earn and Learn Grant program Monday.

The training is meant to help laid-off workers get short term credentials in high demand occupations.

The businesses, schools and non-profits have until October 27 to apply for up to $250,000.

The funding must be used by the end of the year, and can go toward tuition, books, tools and work-related supplies.
