Cedar Rapids Police Holding Drug Take Back Event

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Cedar Rapids Police are taking part in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday.

They'll have a walk-up location at the downtown police station (505 1st Street SW) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Residents can drop off expired medications, which will be disposed of.

Police say the medicine take-back program gets potentially dangerous leftover drugs out of homes.

Most abusers of medicines, including teens, get drugs from a friend or relative, often without their knowledge and not from a drug dealer.

The Cedar Rapids Police effort is part of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
