DES MOINES, Iowa - The weekly jobless report for Iowa shows continued improvement.
Ongoing weekly jobless claims, which reflect the actual unemployment rate, are down 10 percent.
Ongoing claims are down for the 14th week in a row, and have dropped nearly 80 percent from their peak in early May.
First time jobless claims in Iowa inched up slight in the last week.
First time claims rose by 470, to 4,662 from 4,616 the week before.
Ongoing claims dropped by 4,442, from 46,409 to 41,967, reflecting the nearly 10 percent drop.
Numbers released earlier this week from the U.S. Labor Department show Iowa's overall unemployment to be 4.7 percent in September, down from 6.0 percent in August.
Unemployment insurance benefit payments totaled $11,843,704.65 in the most recent week.
