Cedar Rapids Police arrest three suspects, find 2 stolen handguns

(Cedar Rapids, IA) Cedar Rapids Police have arrested three suspects and recovered two stolen handguns. Officers stopped a driver who ran a stop-sign at 11th Street and 22nd Avenue SW. A passenger led an officer on foot chase. Police chased 18-year old Donta Underwood to a backyard where he was arrested and charged with a stolen gun, ammunition, and marijuana possession.

Officers later stopped the vehicle in the 11-hundred block of 21st Street. Two individuals in the vehicle, 18-year-old Torrence Warr and 20-year-old Jentry Chambers were also arrested and are in the Linn County Jail.

The handgun had been reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle that was parked on Bezdek Drive NW on June 10th 2020.

A magazine with bullets and marijuana were found in the possession of Chambers.

Chambers has been arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana, Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, Carrying Weapons, Manner of Conveyance-Loaded Gun, Attempt to Elude, and Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device. Chambers had an AR-15 rifle uncased in the trunk of the vehicle with a magazine inserted.

Chambers admitted tossing a handgun from the vehicle into an alleyway. The handgun was found in the 1100 block of 21st Avenue SW. That handgun was reported stolen on October 12, 2020 from an unlocked vehicle parked in residential driveway on 34th Street NE.

Warr was arrested for Trafficking in Stolen Weapons and Carrying Weapons.
