AMES, Iowa - A new study from Iowa State University says the COVID-19 pandemic has led to higher high school graduation rates in Iowa.
The study finds the lack of job opportunities for high school seniors during the pandemic has led to a 7% increase in high school graduation rates for the class of 2020. The study suggests limited economic opportunities for high schoolers make it more likely that they'll stay in school instead of drop out to pursue a job.
Researchers with the study say as businesses learn to adjust to the pandemic, it's too early to tell if the class of 2021 will also have higher graduation rates.
