DES MOINES, Iowa- The Animal Rescue League of Iowa is taking care for a cat that was found in a box at its front door.
The ARL says a cardboard box taped shut with no holes for ventilation was found at its front door at about 5 p.m. Friday.
It also says the cat had a minor head injury, and was likely found just in time before suffocating. An adopter heard the cat crying on their way and the box was rushed inside.
The shelter is looking for the person left the cat.
"We are incredibly grateful that an effort was made to bring the cat to the ARL property, but it would be really helpful to understand more about how this cat arrived in this condition," the shelter said in a statement.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Pet Helpline at (515) 262-9503.
The cat has been adopted by a family.
