Iowa now has 3rd highest COVID rate in U.S.

Des Moines, Iowa -- Iowa now is third highest in the United States for new COVID-19 cases, per capita. The Iowa Department of Health notes that new case numbers do include some older test results, so the number may not be valid.

Another indication that the coronavirus outbreak is spreading is continued record current hospitalizations, just less than 1,000 now in Iowa. The health department reports more than 2,700 hospital beds are still available across the state, and 370 intensive care beds are still open.

The New York Times COVID map for the United States, using data from Johns Hopkins University's COVID tracking, now puts Iowa third highest in the nation for new COVID-19 cases, up from tenth in October.
