DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa State Senator Janet Peterson is not seeking reelection as Senate minority leader.
She was the first woman elected to lead Senate Democrats in 2017.
Party members are meeting this weekend to vote on leadership for the next state legislative session, which starts in January.
Democrats still hold 18 seats in the state Senate, but Republicans have large majorities in both the House and Senate.
Republican have a 32-18 majority in the state Senate, although one race has still not been called.
