West Des Moines Community Launches Fund for Injured Police Officer

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa - West Des Moines residents are showing their support for an injured police officer in critical condition.

Officer Jon Kaufman was in his patrol car parked near an empty vehicle along I-35 when he was rear-ended by a car at high speed. The rear-end accident caused his patrol car to hit the empty car Kaufman was working to impound. Kaufman suffered multiple serious injuries in the accident.

West Des Moines Police Chief Chris Scott says someone in the in the community set up a Venmo account to support Kaufman and his wife, who are expecting their first child the second week of December.

Donations to the Venmo account @Caring-For-Kaufman go to the family and will be used for daily household expenses during Kaufman's recovery, according to his wife, Dena.
