95 Iowa Counties Have High COVID-19 Rates; Hospital Beds Still Stable

DES MOINES, Iowa - All but four of Iowa's 99 counties now have COVID-19 positivity rates the state considers as high.

The positivity rate in Jones County, east of Cedar Rapids is approaching 50 percent (48.8 percent).

A positivity rate of 15 percent is the threshold where schools can apply to the state for online only classes.

Hospitalizations have also reached a record high as of early Friday morning at 1,227, with 213 patients being admitted during a 24-hour period. There's still no shortage of hospital beds in the state, with availability at about 31 percent.

Iowa still has the third highest rate of new COVID-19 cases in the country. Its death rate is 12th highest.

More than 100 long term care centers in Iowa have COVID-19 outbreaks.
