IOWA CITY, Iowa - Iowa City schools will continue conducting online only classes after being granted a waiver by the state.
Classes will now continue online through December 14th after a previous waiver went into effect last Wednesday.
The new waiver is the third granted to the district this fall because of high COVID-19 rates in Johnson County.
As of Tuesday morning, Johnson is one of only nine Iowa counties with a 14-day positivity rate below the 15 percent threshold (13.4 percent) where districts can ask for a waiver.
The Department of Education has received 81 waiver requests since the beginning of November as the state has had one of the biggest COVID-19 outbreaks in the country.
