Alliant Still Repairing Thousands of Street Lights in Cedar Rapids Area

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Alliant Energy estimates “thousands” of street lights still need to be repaired in the Cedar Rapids area following the August 10th derecho.

Th Gazette reports the utility does not have an estimate for how long it’ll take to repair the lights.

Alliant crews and contractors have fixed “hundreds” of streetlights so far, but obstacles such as ongoing debris piles have slowed repair progress.

The utility has also prioritized restoring power before other repairs after the storm.

The Gazette reports streetlight repairs began at the end of October. Alliant says efforts are now picking up.

The city of Cedar Rapids is still in the process of clearing debris piles and has no estimate of when the activity will be complete.
