MILLS COUNTY, Iowa - A new lawsuit claims Governor Kim Reynolds’ staff and an assistant attorney general approved of mistreatment at a mental institution.

The whistleblower suit says workers were fired for outing the mistreatment, which included sexual-arousal experiments that contributed to a “drastic increase in patient deaths”.

The new lawsuit includes claims from an earlier suit, which said patients were used as "guinea gigs" at the Glenwood Resource Center.

The former workers are now claiming $10 million in damages.

The earlier lawsuit from February was dismissed under technical reasons of jurisdictional grounds.

The new litigation was first reported Wednesday by the Iowa Capitol Dispatch.

The new suit refers to accusations that former Glenwood Resource Center Superintendent Jerry Rea spearheaded "human experiments" at the care facility.
