Iowa could see record warm weather this week

DES MOINES, Iowa -- It's going to feel more like early October than early December for most of the week.

"By the time we get to Wednesday, readings well into the 50's and maybe even some 60's as you head into Southwest Iowa--very unseasonably warm" says National Weather Service Meteorologist Craig Cogil.

He says mid-week high temperatures will be decidedly unusual for this time for year.

"Especially when you're approaching record territory with those highs near 60 degree especially in Western Iowa--it is a bit unusual" Cogil says.

He says the next chance for any precipitation could come near week's end.

"We are watching indications of a possible storm as we head into Thursday night and to Saturday. The models have been quite variable, so there's lots of uncertainty" Cogil says.

He says it's too early to say if that precipitation will be rain, snow--or a mix of both.
