CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Cedar Rapids Police Department is looking to boost its ranks.
It's accepting applications through the first week of next year to be a police officer.
The department says the hiring process is intense and competitive, but has not specified that a college degree is required as some police departments have.
It does say the starting salary for police officers is more than $56,000, and includes a benefit package from the city. The benefits offer medical, dental and vision coverage as well as a pension for retirement.
The department's recruitment includes existing certified officers, who must complete the application process and complete the Civil Service hiring process. Officers from outside Iowa are required to attend the Cedar Rapids Regional Police Academy.
