Des Moines crews prep for first snow-storm of the season

(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines Public Works Director Jonathan Gano says crews are ready for the first snow storm of the season Friday night into Saturday. He says crews will not be able to pre-treat roads with a salt brine though, because of expected rain. He says that could mean more slick conditions as temperatures fall late Friday into Saturday.

He says crews will focus on the 750-miles of snow routes in the city, and if need be switch to residential and neighborhood streets after that.

“We plan on having our plows out as soon as snow starts accumulating on the roadways,” Gano said. “They’ll work to keep our city snow routes clear so that no Des Moines residents will be more than four blocks from a plowed route.”

Des Moines residents can track plowing progress and stay prepared for winter weather all season long at DMSnow.org or by following DSM Public Works on Twitter and Des Moines Public Works on Facebook
