3-6 Inches of Snow Likely in Iowa Friday Night to Saturday Afternoon

IOWA - The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for 3-6 inches of snow bisecting Iowa from southwest to northeast.

The advisory starts at 6 pm Friday and continues though 6 pm Saturday, when the snow storm should leave the state.

The Weather Service says rain will begin to transition to snow Friday afternoon in central Iowa with the transition line moving southeast in the evening. Once the snow begins, it is expected to persist into Saturday morning before ending from west to east across the advisory area.

The main impact of the storm will be snow covered, slick and hazardous roads Friday night into Saturday morning.

Drivers should be especially cautious Friday evening after sunset as roads begin to freeze, especially on bridges and overpasses.

The Weather Service says there is high confidence in timing and snow locations, but some uncertainty remains about snow amounts.
