DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa's liquor sales are at a record high.
The Gazette reports yearly totals through the end of June were more than eight-percent higher than the previous year, which was the previous high mark.
A spike in alcohol consumption that began in March coincides Governor Kim Reynolds’ emergency order that closed non-essential businesses during the pandemic.
American vodka, Canadian whisky and spiced rum were the top three categories of liquor sold during the period.
The record liquor sales resulted in $133 million being sent to the state's general fund.
The alcohol sales numbers were included in a report from the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division released Thursday.
