IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Iowa Hawkeyes football team will play Michigan as part of the Big Ten's "Championship Week" on Saturday.
The scheduling differs from the conference's "Champions Week" concept, which calls for the first-place teams in the West and East divisions to play each other, as are the second-place teams, and so on.
Under that concept, the Hawkeye's would have played East runner-up Indiana.
But the Big Ten is prioritizing rivalries and has scheduled Indiana to play Purdue, leaving Iowa with Michigan as its opponent. Indiana and Purdue will play for the Old Oaken Bucket in their rivalry game.
The Big Ten's "Championship Week" concept was announced in September.
The Iowa-Michigan game will be played at 6 pm Saturday in Iowa City, and will be televised on ESPN.
