CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Cedar Rapids garbage collection in alley ways starts this week for customers with regular Monday and Tuesday collection.
Collections were moved to the street in front of residents' homes after the August derecho until alleys could be cleared of obstructions such as low-hanging wires and scattered debris.
The City is still working with utility companies to clear passage through alleyways for its collection trucks.
Alley garbage collection has already been restored, and will continue for all customers with regular Wednesday & Thursday collection.
Alley service resumes this week for a limited group of customers with regular Friday collection who live within the following boundaries: east of 19th Street SE, between 1st Avenue and Mount Vernon Road.
Street collection continues for Friday customers who live within the following areas:
West of 19th Street SE,
South of Mount Vernon Road, and
North of 1st Avenue East.
