DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa courts are advising the public about a scam from people who claim to be court clerks or part of the state's Judicial Branch.
Letters warn people that if payments are not made to an 800 number on the notice, the person’s driver's license would be suspended and an arrest warrant may be issued.
The Judicial Branch says those notices are a scam, as it does not have an 800 number for paying court fines and fees.
It says people who want to inquire about a potential scam should contact the county clerk where the notice originated. A link to each Iowa county's clerk can be found here.
According to a release from the Judicial Branch, the scam currently appears to target Iowans who have moved to another state.
