Iowa begins mulling who gets COVID vaccine next

(Des Moines, IA) -- A state panel has started meeting to determine which groups of Iowans will have access to the COVID-19 vaccine, and when. Kelly Garcia, the Director of the Iowa Department of Human Services and Public Health says after front-line health workers and long term care staff, it's likely others in congregate settings, schools, and corrections will have access to the vaccine.

Garcia says shortly afterward, it's likely that workers at DHS-run resource centers and facilities will have access to the vaccine. She says after that, it will likely go to front-line D-H-S workers who deal directly with families.

Garcia says the panel will meet next week to discuss priority groups.
