(Ames, IA) -- Fire damaged a home in west Ames Thursday. Crews were called to 3617 Ross Road shortly before 7 p.m. and found smoke and flames coming from the front of the home.
Crews were able to quickly put out the fire, which was contained to the living room area.
No one was home at the time, witnesses spotted the fire in the windows and called 911.
The fire department estimates the fire caused $15,000 in damage.
The Ames Fire Department says the investigation into the fire continues. The department reminds residents to test smoke detectors monthly, and during the holidays, please remember to maintain fresh water in live Christmas trees, be mindful while cooking, and never leave lit candles unattended.
