(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Democrat Rita Hart is officially asking the US House of Representatives to contest the results of the election in Iowa's Second Congressional District. Hart made the announcement Tuesday morning.
Hart's campaign claims two errors by state and county election officials resulted in the exclusion of at least 22 lawful ballots. Hart lost the race to Republican Marianette Miller-Meeks by six votes.
The Hart campaign issued the challenge to the US House of Representatives based on allegations of uncounted, legal votes.
The Miller-Meeks campaign has up to 30 days to file a response to the Hart campaign's challenge.
