Four-year-old child seriously injured after Cedar Rapids shooting

(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Cedar Rapids police say a 4-year-old boy was seriously injured in a shooting this (Wednesday) afternoon. Officers were called to 208 7th Street SW at 2:42 P.M. They found a child with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers and other first responders provided emergency medical care on scene, and transported the boy to UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital. Police say the child was later transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Cedar Rapids Police say based on the preliminary investigation, the shooting incident appears to be unintentional. There is an active, ongoing investigation.
