(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Thirty-five people have been flooded out of a high rise Cedar Rapids apartment building. KCRG-TV 9 reports that the Fire Department says two water pipes burst, sending water flowing throughout the downtown building. Crews arrived to the Roosevelt building at 200 First Avenue NE Friday afternoon to find water coming from under one door and two inches of standing water elsewhere.
The Fire Department's investigation determined the source of the water issue to be two broken pipes along with a broken sprinkler system pipe. Firefighters believe that a window left open while the apartment’s tenants left town caused the pipes to freeze and burst.
Officials said that around 35 people in 22 units were displaced by the damage caused by the water.
