(Polk County, IA) -- The Polk County Health Department says COVID-19 vaccines have been delivered to the county's three hospital systems, Broadlawns Hospital, MercyOne, and Unity Point, and health care workers continue to be vaccinated. Spokesperson Nola Aigner-Davis says since Polk County is the largest in the state, it will likely take a little longer to vaccine all the front-line health care workers compared to other less-populated counties in Iowa. She says it will take some time for teams to vaccine residents and care workers in the county's 200 long term care facilities as well.
Two doses of the vaccine are required before full immunity is achieved, so health officials urge residents to continue wearing mask and taking precautions to reduce the spread of the virus.
