CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Sign companies in Cedar Rapids continue to deal with a backlog of business since the August derecho.
The Gazette reports some companies will require up to six months to repair or replace all the damaged signs for area businesses.
So far, a mild winter has been a help to repair efforts. The Gazette reports major sign companies also now have supplies to make repairs after an earlier shortage when plastic producers had shifted to making face shields.
The newspaper further reports there have been delays in the insurance claim process that have led some businesses to hold off on seeking repairs for their signs until recently.
The August 10th derecho left massive damage to residential and commercial structures around Cedar Rapids, as well as the downing of countless numbers of trees. The National Weather Service has pegged damage from the storm at $1 billion.
