Iowa Cities, Towns Issue Emergency Parking Orders Ahead of Winter Storm

IOWA - Cities in and around the path of Tuesday's winter storm are issuing emergency parking bans and advisories.

Larger cities such as Des Moines and Cedar Rapids have designated snow routes, and will tow parked cars that obstruct snow plows and issue fines.

Smaller towns and suburban cities have issued emergency bans that prohibit parking along any street, with penalties that include fines and towing. West De Moines and Johnston are among the metro cities in Des Moines with such orders.

Most of the current emergency parking orders last through Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning.

The storm is expected to leave anywhere from 5-12 inches of snow along its path extending from Des Moines eastward through Cedar Rapids and Dubuque in Iowa. Waterloo and the Quad Cities are also expected to receive substantial amounts of snow in the storm.
