(Davenport, IA) -- A 20-year-old Iowa City man with a long criminal history, has been sentenced to five years in prison. Charls Peter Niphong was convicted on a weapons charge, and has been sentenced in U.S. Court in Davenport.
Police say Niphong was named as a suspect in a string of burglaries in Iowa City in 2019. Investigators learned that Niphong’s phone usage placed him in the area of the burglaries during the time frame where they occurred.
Niphong was also spotted on surveillance footage and seen using stolen credit cards. A search warrant conducted on Niphong’s residence turned up stolen guns and stolen property.
Police say Niphong had sold those two guns to a person living at the residence. Police say Niphong has an extensive criminal history in Iowa.
