Sports Betting Tops $100 Million a Month in Iowa

IOWA - Sports betting in Iowa topped $100 million for the third month in a row in December.

More than three quarters of the wagering took place online.

Sports betting in the state is expected to increase even more with upcoming events such as the Super Bowl and the college basketball tournament.

A new law that went into effect January 1st allows people to establish an online sports betting account without visiting a casino.

Sports betting totaled roughly $419.5 million in the first six months of the current fiscal year which began July 1st in numbers released by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission. More than $300 million of tht money was wagered online.

The state generated $2.37 million from the sports betting.
