(Des Moines, IA) -- A former Des Moines School employee is accused of improperly spending funds. A State audit accuses William Hinrichs of improperly spending more than $200,000 over several years. Hinrichs was a Project Facilitator. He resigned last year amid a spending investigation. The Audit finds Hinrichs bought tools with school funds then sold them at a profit.
Auditors reviewed the books between 2013 and February 2020, after the district expressed concern about Hinrichs' spending. He coordinated repairs, remodeling and construction. He was approved billings from vendors. The Audit determined improper spending and unsupported disbursements to Ja-Ra Enterprises, a vendor used by the District for general labor services.
