(Des Moines, IA) -- The National Weather Service has removed a number of counties from a blizzard warning.
Forecasters say central Iowa has picked up between 5-7 inches of snow, and strong winds are still going to cause some blowing and drifting. Blizzard conditions overnight into Friday morning reduced visibility and made travel hazardous, leading to numerous crashes in the Des Moines area.
Forecasters say winds should taper off this evening.
The existing blizzard warning, impacting counties west of Interstate-35 is in effect until 6 p.m.
