DES MOINES, Iowa - Former Des Moines sports talk show host Marty Tirrell faces a prison sentence after pleading guilty to fraud charges.

Federal prosecutors are asking for a five year sentence, and for Tirrell to pay back $1.4 million to investors in a sports ticketing arrangement

Tirrell pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud in 2019, while nine other charges against him were dropped.

He's scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday after an eight month delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tirrell was found to have used money from investors in his sports ticket operation not to buy tickets, but to have spent much of it on personal belongings and online gambling.

He lost several civil lawsuits before facing criminal conviction in 2019.
