WASHINGTON, DC - The Iowa Democratic Party wants an investigation into newly elected Republican Congresswoman Ashley Hinson.
The party's filed a complaint with the House Ethics Office, claiming Hinson improperly used official social media (Twitter and Facebook) to lobby against a Democratic challenge to election results.
Democrat Rita Hart is challenging her narrow loss in November to the U.S. House.
Hinson denies she did anything wrong, saying Hart's challenge in the House makes it official business.
The Democratic Party’s call for the investigation specifies that Hinson asks people to contact their representatives to urge them to reject the challenge to results in the 2nd District.
Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks defeated Hart by just six votes in the 2nd District race in November’s elections.
Hart’s campaign has challenged those results to a U.S. House committee, claiming 22 ballots that were legally cast were not counted.
