Cedar Rapids City Council to Consider Citizen Review Board Proposal

(Cedar Rapids, Iowa) -- The City of Cedar Rapids is getting closer to establishing establishing a Citizen Review Board.

The board's goal is to improve community relations with police and increase police accountability. The proposal sought community feedback and input from the group Advocates for Social Justice.

The proposal would create a nine-member board appointed by the mayor and approved by the City Council, with at least five members identifying as people of color.

The board will have multiple roles, such as reviewing police data and community complaints against officers. The ordinance will head to the City Council for consideration on Tuesday.

The full proposal can be found here.
